Our Mission
Established in 1965, Fairbanks Montessori School is a private, fully licensed day care facility, pre-school, and kindergarten serving approximately 100 children, ages 3-6, and their families in the Fairbanks area. As a non-profit organization dedicated to early childhood education, it is our mission “to give each child a chance to maximize his or her own potential. Through self-directed activities in a climate of mutual trust and respect, we provide children with an environment that stimulates social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. Our goal is that each child leaves our school with a strong sense of self-worth, an abiding love of learning, a respect for themselves and others and a healthy independence of action and thought.”
The Montessori Classroom
The Montessori preschool classroom does not separate children by age. Three year olds enter the classroom as the youngest students, needing special guidance and assistance. By the time they are five, in their Kindergarten year, they have gained self-confidence and leadership skills which they practice and hone by taking ever increasing responsibility for their classroom. Working on these skills is an important part of the third year program, and the skills the children acquire will help them throughout their lives.
